Synchronization in OnTimeIn order to share information across your organization, OnTime stores all
your company data in a central database server. The OnTime applications then
synchronize themselves with this central data repository. Understanding how
synchronization works in OnTime will equip you to see more fully how your data
will mesh with everyone else's.
Manual Synchronization
You can perform a manual synchronization with the OnTime server by clicking
the Synchronize button from the toolbar.
Troubleshooting Synchronization
Problems
If you have problems synchronizing your data with the OnTime server, the
following suggestions and tools can help.
- Check the synchronization log for hints
Each time OnTime synchronizes with the server, a log of that activity is
generated which you can then review. There may be an indication in the log
that an error occurred with a suggestion on how to remedy the problem. If
this is the case, follow the directions given or consult your system
administrator for further assistance with interpreting the information in
the log. You may also choose to send the log to OnTime Technical Support
personnel for further analysis. Further information on
accessing synchronization logs is
available here.
- Use the conflict manager to resolve concurrency issues
When two people try to make a change to the same record at the same time
this can cause a problem called a concurrency error. In such cases, it is
difficult for a computer to know who's information should be saved and who's
should be ignored. To help resolve such conflicts, OnTime's built in
conflict manager can be used to view the differences and make an educated
choice to fix the problem. Further information on
using the conflict manager is available here.
